Week 29

We had our first of three baby showers yesterday! It was our co-ed BaByQ shower here in Temple. Unfortunately it's the only one of our showers that Colt will be able to go to due to his work schedule. The girls that hosted did such a great job on everything, and the shower was a ton of fun! We were blessed with lots of friends that came and are very grateful for all of the gifts as well. As we were putting everything in her room, I didn't know where to put everything! Once I get caught up on old post, I will be posting pics from the shower. 

Week 29… I had to take my glucose test that Wednesday. I chose the orange flavor.  I really don't see what the big deal is or why people say it's so bad??  It just tasted like a sweet orange soda to me. Maybe the three hour test is worse but for the one hour, it was no big deal at all. I had my normal doctor's appointment that same day after my glucose test. They measured my belly. All was measuring right on track, and her heartbeat was good. My blood pressure was 134/73 which still isn't great. I was still at the same weight as my appointment 2 weeks prior, 141.  

I was still feeling good. Not to complain at all, but I do think this was around the time that my tailbone started hurting a little. It wasn't, and still doesn't, ever hurt bad.  It just hurts a little, especially when I sit in the same position for a while. I think this was also around the point where I started waking up (besides the normal waking up to go to the bathroom AT LEAST two or three times a night) and having to roll over and switch sides because my ribs were hurting from laying on one side for too long. I'm normally a stomach sleeper anyways so sleeping on my sides has been an adjustment. Since then, the need for rotating sides has switched from my ribs being the cause to my hips hurting and being the cause.  This was about the time of the ribs I think! 

I had tried sitting in the yard one day to get a little sun, but my swimsuits were a no-go! I ordered some bigger ones online and they came in that week. Colt was over at Robb's that Friday night helping build a bar and deck for Alicia's 30th birthday party so while he was gone, I tried them on and sent him this picture. I also sent it to my mom and she said her and my dad were dying laughing! When she told me that, she started feeling bad the next day and wanted to clarify that they were laughing at my facial expression, not me! She hadn't hurt my feelings though, and I didn't even think twice about it! I've grown A LOT since then though! I definitely didn't take a picture of myself when I sat in the yard in a swimsuit today!

And no, I'm not all belly, my face has filled out and I've definitely expanded in the butt, hips and thigh area too, especially now. 

Ultrasound Appointment

On April 20th, we got to go in for our follow-up ultrasound. During our ultrasound where we found out the sex, they saw a choroid plexus cyst, which was the reason for the follow-up. Based on when we had the trigger shot, we should have a due date of July 8th. From the ultrasound measurements, which really doesn't mean much, she was measuring with a due date of July 3rd. She weighed 2 lbs. 13 oz. This was the last time that we've seen her and been given an estimate of her weight so I would be interested to see what she's weighing in at now! Her heartbeat and everything else looked perfect!  The cyst that they had seen previously had went away on it's own and was gone!

She really didn't want to cooperate for pics. She kept putting her hands in front of her face. Colt and I said her nose didn't really look like either one of ours. After I sent the pic to my mom, she started sending me newborn pictures of myself saying that it looked kinda like mine though. I can't wait to meet her and see what she looks like!

Even though I wasn't really too worried about the appointment, it was still a good feeling to hear that everything looked great! It was also a fun appointment since we got to look at her for so long! 

Week 28

Week 28 came along with April 15th, Tax Deadline Day! I was so happy to see that day! These were taken later that weekend. At the end of Week 28, on Monday, we got to go in for our follow-up ultrasound to check up on baby girl. I was definitely excited leading up to that! 

Week 27

Week 27… I think this was the point I officially reached the third trimester. I'm not really sure when the official start of third trimester is. Some books or apps say 27 weeks and others say 28 weeks so I went with the earlier of the two! 

Week 27 was a rough week. I had worked a ton the week before and had been working pretty much every Saturday or Sunday because of the April tax deadline. That along with not really taking breaks or drinking enough water, I think I overdid it.  I was definitely feeling the stress of having too much to do and not enough time to do it. Colt wasn't too happy with me. I had an appointment that Monday, and my blood pressure was 144/something. They checked it a little later in the appointment, and it didn't get much better. It was still 139/73 when they checked it the second time. I also weighed about 141. I had gained about 8 pounds since my previous appointment which was double what I had hoped to gain. The doctor didn't seem concerned with the weight but she was definitely concerned with the blood pressure.  She gave me worst case scenarios on if I didn't take care of myself that I could be on bed rest or in the hospital until the baby was born. I also was going to have to get tested to make sure that I didn't have preeclampsia. The next day I had to start collecting my urine all day. When you are collecting, it really feels like you are going to the bathroom all day! I almost filled up the whole jug! I had to drop it off on Wednesday morning at the lab so they could test it and make sure there was no protein in my urine. Colt wasn't surprised at all with anything…  it was more of an "I told you so." He did threaten to unplug my work computer though. Luckily when my lab results came back, I was negative for preeclampsia. I was told to relax, take care of myself and to keep monitoring my blood pressure at home until my next appointment in 2 weeks. By then I was to the point where I was having to go to the doctor every 2 weeks rather than once a month.

I did have a major breakdown after my appointment that Monday. I think it was a combination of stress, hormones and just being tired.  That Monday night, I got in the shower and I just started crying (literally sobbing) forever! Then I got in bed with Colt and started crying some more! I told him I felt like I was already failing by not taking care of myself. He ensured me that I just needed to chill out and realize it was serious and something to not play around with. The rest of the week I still worked more than I should have, but I did take daily walks and made a better effort at taking breaks and increasing my water intake. 

Week 26

Now that I'm 34 weeks, it's definitely time for some bump updates… so much for staying caught up! We've been on a little staycation all this week, and I had good intentions on posting a little each day. That didn't happen! Now I have my feet propped up on pillows (to hopefully alleviate some swelling that has started), and if all goes as planned, I'm going to try to knock out a lot of post in a row!

I hit week 26 two months ago, around April 1st. I thought my belly was getting big then, but I had no idea what was coming! I really wish I would have kept up and took notes in more detail so I could remember all the changes week by week better. It all starts blending together! Overall though, by Week 26, she was definitely active and there was no doubt when she was moving! The movement was and still is my favorite part of pregnancy (even when its sometimes a little painful). I could make a list of changes and things that are harder to do now that I'm at week 34, but at Week 26, I was still feeling good.

Based on the picture, I was still wearing just a belly band on my jeans at this point. 

A couple more of Colt's accomplishments

Not too long after Colt presented in Austin, we found out that he had won an award and was nominated AND chosen to be inducted into the 2015 John L. Montgomery, MD Resident and Fellow Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. The department head told him it was a pretty big accomplishment. From what I understand it's not just an award for first year residents, it's for all residents in all departments I believe. He had one particular case where he really fought for his patient and he's pretty sure that is what led to his nomination. Regardless, I'm super proud of him.

Then just a week or so later, he also found out that the paper he had submitted on another case was published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine. His article is called Bilateral Lower Extremity Swelling: Black Pearl. We are supposed to get a copy but evidently you can buy it too!

This also means that he's already done with his research requirement!

March

Now that it's the middle of May… I will post about March! Colt had to be in Austin on March 2nd to present and attend a conference. He was presenting one of the cases that he had worked on. This was the poster for his presentation. 

He got off on Sunday, the 1st, at around lunch. Even though he was probably ready to go to bed, we packed up and went ahead and went to Austin as soon as he got home so that we could make a couple of stops before going to the hotel. We stopped at the Apple store so he could glance at desktops, and then we went to Buy Buy Baby to start our baby registry. We ended up at Buy Buy Baby for at least two hours that day! Talk about a little overwhelming… I had some big items picked out in advance but there were a lot of things I wanted to see in person. Then we were definitely clueless when we made it to the bottle and breastfeeding area. We kinda just clicked stuff and decided to look up more information and ask questions later. There's a lot of decisions and choices! Colt was definitely a trooper and luckily, he had opinions on everything and there are definitely things he picked out! He's pretty great and probably way more involved and opinionated than a lot of dad's! After we were finally done (and we weren't really done) at Buy Buy Baby, we met up with Tina, Brandon and the other EM interns that were there for the conference at a mexican restaurant called Trudy's. 

While Colt was at the conference on Monday, I had planned on working from the hotel and also doing our personal taxes, but that didn't happen! I ended up back at Buy Buy Baby. Originally, I had planned on going with pale gray and light pink in the baby's room (a soft, elegant look from all my pins on pinterest). Colt wasn't a fan though and said it was too boring and that we needed something more fun... so then I was thinking hot pink and gray then. I had found a couple that I liked online, but they ended up having a display at Buy Buy Baby on Sunday that we both liked so we went with it. They didn't have it in store so we had planned on going back to the hotel and adding it online. However, the majority of the bedding pieces ended up being special order, of course!  After calling them, they said I could come in and special order everything we wanted. That's the main reason I went back... and also to look at carseats and strollers a little more after looking at reviews. To top it off though, Tina gave me a 20% off our total purchase so I was going to use money my parents had given me to put towards our crib and bedding to go ahead and order the bedding while I was there. Then because I had the coupon, Dede also sent me a list of items she wanted me to buy that day from them...so I ended up with a truck full and a lot of items purchased off our registry already!

We didn't do the pink chair though. We were thinking we were going to recover a red Lazboy that we have but after getting estimates from several upholstery places, we decided to just order a new chair. We ordered a dark gray glider and ottoman with white piping at a furniture store here in Temple instead. After waiting 6 or 7 weeks, we went to pick it up and they didn't do the piping right! We didn't take it, got a refund and were back to square one on chairs. I ended up finding one online at Target and chanced it hoping it came in and we liked it. It got here last week and was broke! We haven't had much luck with chairs! However, Colt was able to quickly repair it, and I just called Target and got them to give us a discount because at this point ordering a new chair would be pushing it on timing. 

After I left Buy Buy Baby, I figured I would spare Colt, and I went ahead and went to Babies R Us to register so he wouldn't have to be in on that one. He called while I was there and was about to be done for the day so I went and picked him up and the two of us went back to Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us yet again! We picked out the carseat we wanted (which now is irrelevant because I was given an infant carseat by Mallory) and then we pushed around and compared strollers even more! Even though everyone always talks about the Bob stroller, we ended up going with the Baby Jogger jogging stroller instead. Colt liked how much easier it was to fold up and to me it felt better and turned easier.  Colt's sister has already purchased us that too and had it delivered to us!! She got us the stroller, carseat adapter and mom hooks to go with it. Between our families, we've gotten a lot of our big items already. They are just a little excited!

 After our baby store extravaganza, we rushed back to the hotel so I could get ready for dinner that night. There was a group BBQ dinner that we were all going to. Dr. Jeurgens picked us up and we rode with him. Then after the dinner, we stopped for ice cream.

Our crib came in at the beginning of March. Because I have all my old white furniture from when I was in high school, we wanted to be able to use it, and we wanted something that would somewhat go with it so we went with the simple Jenny Lind crib. Luckily it was cheap so we made my parents money go a long way… which is why it covered the bedding we bought too! The pack-n-play, also in the picture, is one of the many things Colt's mom bought us too.

The only thing that I had realy bought at that time, along with a few books, was this little outfit! I saw it on etsy and loved it so I bought it for her newborn pictures. Etsy definitely could be a dangerous place!

And this is something we had registered for at Buy Buy Baby that Colt's mom bought us and sent in the mail! 

And just a couple of randoms of me and the dogs hanging out in her room...

and Lucky laying in our what was clean laundry… I'm not sure why he chose to lay there of all places when he has couches all around. 

Colt was in the ED in March but it was still pretty rough because it seemed like he was flip flopping from days to nights about every day. It definitely wasn't the best schedule that's for sure! Saturday, the 15th , he was off for the first time in a while and the weather was great so we spent the day in the backyard. We made a trip to Lowe's to buy a ton of mulch and flowers and spent the day weeding, planting flowers and all that good stuff. Even though Colt did most of the work, my feet felt like they were swollen by the end of it. 

The day after all the work in the yard, I went somewhere for maybe an hour, and came home to this!  She hadn't destroyed anything but she sure had rolled in the mulch. 

Then I look out my office window later and see this. 

I left again though, and one of the dogs, not sure if it was Lucky, Alex or both of them had gotten into everything again and dug up some of our flowers by the door. They definitely got in trouble!

Colt had a spread of a few days off that next Wednesday through Friday so his mom came down that Thursday, the 19th, at lunch. We went and grabbed Chipotle, and then that's when we went and picked out and ordered our chair and ottoman for the baby's room that I mentioned above. When his mom got there, she arrived with her hands full. She had our highchair, and she also had a lot more baby stuff. 

I had wanted a wooden high chair, and I couldn't find one for a reasonable price. Colt found this one in great condition on Craig's list in Dallas and his parents went and picked it up for us. I'm still shocked at what great shape it's in. I was expecting to find one that needed a ton of work done to it but this one doesn't need a thing!

David came down seperate on Thursday when he got off work. We played Cards Against Humanity in the backyard (there aren't too many parents you would play that with). Then we grabbed chinese and watched a movie (or they did, I immediately fell asleep). Friday morning David got up bright and early and headed back home to go to work. I had to work too so Colt and his mom ran a couple errands Friday before she headed out.

We hosted the monthly intern dinner at our house on Sunday, the 22nd. I probably shouldn't have volunteered to host during tax season but all went great! I did a mexican theme and we had chips, queso, baked chicken taquitos, quesadillas, tacos, and sopapilla cheesecake. Colt also made his margaritas. I definitely made too much food. I think I ate taquitos the rest of the week. After dinner, a few stayed and we played Cards Against Humanity. 

Colt bought these squirrel feeders while his mom was here, and the squirrels definitely have figured it out. They kept me entertained during my 10-12 hour shifts of work during tax season since I could watch them through my office window. 

Major exciting news is that my nephew, Heston, was born on March 23rd! Times like those is when I wish it was just a quick trip like it used to be! We ended up not getting to meet him until later because of mine and Colt's work schedules. 

The next weekend Colt got off at 2am on Saturday and was off until Sunday night at 7pm so while he worked on building an outdoor table in the backyard, I sat out there with him and worked on getting our personal tax stuff all together.

He built holes in the tables that hold planters that can be used as either an ice chest/cooler or as an actual planter. He got on Pinterest and he's a fan! It's good though because he's so handy!

He ended up staining it and finishing it a couple of days later when he was off. I snapped these while I was in my office working and he was outside working on it. 

The stain ended up sorta being an accident and required lots of elbow grease on his part, but it turned out great! It's prettier than our inside table. 

Since then, he's planted some flowers in the two planter boxes. 

We also received this letter from our neice, Davallen, in March. Her great grandma was keeping her one day, and I guess they decided to write us a letter!
