A few weeks ago, Colt and I started playing on a co-ed softball team with some of his classmates and a lot of their wives. I've played a little with my work's co-ed team a couple of seasons, but besides that, I haven't played softball since high school. It kinda makes me miss it a little. Slow pitch is definitely different than fast pitch though! One main difference is I get to bat right handed! In high school, I always had to bat left handed and either drag bunt or slap it.
Our team name is the Bomb Squad. We won our first game a couple weeks ago by quite a bit. The game probably would have ended a little early, but Colt wanted to continue batting so him and Ryan made a couple of errors on purpose to let the other team score. Our second game got rained out, and then we played again last night and won! I think we are actually pretty good, either that or the other teams aren't very good, probably a combination of both! The game was at 9 last night so Colt and I weren't really looking forward to playing that late, but once we were playing, it was fun and it was worth it! I have led off hitting the last couple of games, and Colt is right behind me so that makes it pretty fun. Last night, he had a pretty good hit and was WALKING around the bases. I made it home and turned around and he was about to get thrown out and didn't even know it! Now that would have been funny if he would have gotten out while he was playing around! He plays around a lot during the games, with our team and the other team, and he always tells people to do the wrong thing when they're running bases. Who would've thought?! A lot of our guys had some really good hits last nights, and our girls did great too! In the field, we have to have a girl either pitching or catching so Melissa, Ben's wife, is our designated catcher and Steve is our pitcher. The rest of us just kinda alternate wherever, except for our shortstop, Jay (thanks for the correction Katie!), who is pretty good, and our injured first baseman, Josh. We only have to have three girls on the field at a time, so two girls always play right field and second. When I do play in the field, I haven't changed since I used to play. I would still rather be in the outfield. I prefer fly balls much more than grounders. Grounders still scare me a little for some reason! I actually got a ball hit to me while I was in outfield last night, and luckily I caught it. I didn't think I was going to because I lost it in the lights for a minute.
I meant to take pics at the last two games. I left my camera in the car the first game, and then last night I made it a point to take my camera to the dugout and still forgot to take pics! Hopefully I'll remember next time!
