Colt's Med School Interviews

Colt is finished up his interviews on November 13th at Baylor in Houston. I know he is so glad to be done with them! He interviewed at all 8 in Texas, besides El Paso. We are lucky in the fact that he is in a program called JAMP (Joint Admission Medical Program) that guarantees him a spot in TX. We just don't know which one yet! He did great on his MCAT though and is ranked in the top 15% in the nation, which of course isn't good enough to him, he wanted to be in the top 10%! Go figure! These are all the schools that he interviewed at. He puts in his match (top choices) in December and he finds out where he goes on January 6th!

He interviewed at UT - Houston first. I got to go with him to this one. He spent last summer there in a program where he took classes and shadowed some doctors. It was comfortable because he already knew all the administrators and some of the teachers and students. The dean even came out to meet me! I was impressed with the school, the only downside is the location, due to family, my job, etc.

This one he has the option of where he spends his four years. He can do 2 years in College Station, 2 in Temple, or all 4 in Temple and would be doing his clinical rounds at Scott and White. He seemed impressed with this one too. All the ones I didn't go to, I just hear the bits and pieces of what he liked and didn't like!

TCOM in Fort Worth. This was an osteopathic school that he basically kinda "had to" interview at since he is in the JAMP program.

UT - Southwestern in Dallas

I got to go to Friday's rounds of this one. We went at lunch and listened to information regarding the school, curriculum, clinical facilities,etc. , had a brief tour and had dinner with some med students. It's not exactly in the "best" neighborhood in Dallas. It's on both sides of Harry Hines, but I could see my office downtown from where we were though so that would definitely be a plus. The curriculum fit the style that Colt likes and some of the horror stories and "cut throat" rumors we had heard about the school seem to have changed. He went back on Saturday for more information sessions, his actual interviews and tours of the classrooms and hospitals that he would be at.

His last interview was back in Houston at Baylor. He spent the summer before last at Baylor shadowing a physician. He said the interview seemed to go great at this one too. Now he is all done with this part of the process. Now he just has to put them in order and submit his rankings and wait and see what happens!

Colt's Birthday and Halloween

Colt is a Halloween baby. I wanted to do something on his actual birthday this year so I made reservations at Del Frisco's for Halloween night. It was SUPPOSED to be a surprise. If you know Colt, you know he is a big steak eater and neither one of us had ever been there so I thought it would be fun. He knew we were going somewhere and he knew it had to be his favorite meal so he had it figured out (as usual). After we were seated, we got the 15 minute explanation of the menu and both went with steak. You should have saw his face when he bit into his steak. He looked like he was in heaven! LOL. We had an awesome meal and he even got a birthday dessert. We had a ton of fun and definitely recommend the place.

Earlier that day we went to his parents house to watch Gerald's Ole Miss game. I dressed the dogs up in their Halloween costumes to go over there! Here are a few pics of our little spider and devil.

Alex's 1st Birthday (and yes we do doggie presents)!

Alex, our lab, had her 1st birthday on October 17th! Can't believe we've nearly had her a year on Thanksgiving! She got a new bone and a new toy for her birthday. Once she got the bone out of the bag she could have cared less what else was in there though!

Where we call HOME

We moved to our rent house in Royse City in July 9,2008, the day before we got engaged! It is the halfway point between Colt in Commerce and me in Dallas and it has worked out perfectly for this point in our lives. I was willing to keep doing the long drive from Commerce to Dallas but Colt talked me into at least going to look in Royse City and man am I glad we did because now I can't imagine making that drive! We've lived here a little over a year already but I just got around to taking pictures of it.

We will be here at least until next summer and it has been a great first house for us! We have definitely learned some things we would never want or do when we go to buy or build a house in the future though!!

October

I can't believe it's already October. October means another tax deadline, Alex's (our lab's) 1st birthday and Colt's birthday on Halloween!

It also means I got to make a new desktop calendar Wednesday night, or I should say add pictures to because I didn't actually make it! Here's my new desktop for October. I love these things, especially for my computer at work. I ran across these at shabbyprincess.com when I was looking for information on digital scrapbooking. They are premade little layouts, but they're still fun!

And this is the first one I made for September. Now Colt asked for me to make him one for his computer but he wants a more "manly" one so that I am going to have to make from scratch. Needless to say, I am still working on that one, and October may already be over by the time I get it made! As for digital scrapbooking, I haven't decided yet. When I get time, which will probably be when I get done taking CPA exams and get a break from overtime, I do want to start scrapbooking again, one way or another!
