Office Decor

If you mention something to Colt's mom, she goes all out! When I first moved into my office it was bare. I mentioned needing decor to Colt, and he passed the word along to his mom. I had thought about bringing some stuff up from home but I wanted it a little brighter and more fun. Since you spend so much time at work, I figure you need to make it as happy of a place as possible. One day while I was working, Colt's mom text me a picture of a canvas and asked if I liked it. She said she would get it for me for my late birthday present. I expected to come home to one pic but instead, I came home to a floor full of decorations!
That was on a Tuesday. That Friday, Colt boxed everything up for me and stopped by my office on his way home from the hospital to decorate for me! And yes, he did all the decorating and deciding where everything needed to go! You wouldn't think so, but he's pretty good at decorating!

And if I ever get my CPA certificate framed, there's still room.

My office is definitely more homey now that Colt and his mom are done with it! In my opinion, I have one of the best looking offices at our office and it smells good too thanks to a diffuser that Dede also bought! It's sad that it's probably decorated better than some rooms in our house.

Here's the pic that I had originally bought and planned on taking to the office. It has a home in our office at the house now.
Dede and David also had this delivered to the office before all the decor came to congratulate me and make my office a little more comfy.
And here were some before pics...
Definite improvement from then to now!

Step 2 & The Lake

Colt started toxicology on Monday, July 29th. That Saturday, August 3rd, he had to take Step 2. It was a 9 hour exam with no real break. He left crazy early that morning and didn't get home until pretty late. When he got home, he looked exhausted. He said it was awful. I can't repeat the exact words he used to describe it! It will probably take 2 months to find out how he did. Regardless of how he did, I know he is just relieved that it's finally over. The rest of 4th year should be pretty easy for him, and now when he is off, he is off. He's not having to come home and constantly study for something.
When he got home from the test Saturday night, we went to Christina's for dinner. The next day, he and Josh had made plans to go to the lake to relax and celebrate finally being done. Josh got to our house fairly early Sunday morning, and we headed to Colt's moms out at the lake. We played on the jet skis, played frisbee with Davallen and the guys pulled each other on the wake board for a little while. Colt's mom had put BBQ on the smoker so after we were done playing, we all had a late lunch before it was time to head home. I think we all got a little too much sun, or at least I know I was a little sunburned and tired the next day at work. We had a great time at the lake, and I'm happy that Colt is done with another big part of med school!
Colt wanted me to take pics of Josh putting on this life jacket vs. him putting on the life jacket. He's such a good friend.

July 22-28th

I started the week of July 22nd off with an office! I got to pack up my things the Thursday before and while I was off on Friday, they moved me in. That first week or two my office was empty and bare, especially before I got chairs. However, I mentioned decorating to Colt and he passed the word along to his mom and now I am taken care of to say the least! I will do a whole separate post with pics on that. I am loving having an office though. I feel like I get so much more done now and have a lot less distractions.. most days.

Friday night, the 26th, Colt and I worked out and then ending up watching the movie Mud. It was pretty good but a little slow at parts.

Saturday morning Colt had to study for his boards since it was the last weekend before so I went to the free workout at the gym.  It was a fun one with a little relay warm up and then a deck of cards team workout.

After the workout, I went grocery shopping. Then Saturday night we went to Chris and Leslie's to watch the CrossFit games and eat fajitas. We had a good time, and I am sad that they moved. I will definitely miss those two at the gym.

Sunday afternoon, I had Julie's baby shower in Dallas. On the way there I stopped at Kirklands in Mesquite to look around for possible office decor. I ended up buying a huge picture that was on sale. Of course it wouldn't fit in my car so I had to call Colt for pickup. I had planned on us going back and getting it later but he went and picked it up for me while I was gone. I didn't tell him how big it really was (and acted like it might actually come close to fitting in my car) so he wasn't prepared. He had the bed of his truck full and had to cram it in the cab of his truck. I ended up not taking the picture to my office either because I think it will look good in our office at home so it is sitting in there waiting to be hung up.

I had collected money at work for a group gift for Julie so before the shower, I picked up Laura and we went shopping. It took a little longer than we planned but we ended up with a ton of great stuff and weren't too late to the shower! Julie had a great shower. I'm excited for her and can't wait to see if she is having a boy or a girl.

MV Class of 2003 10 Year Reunion

My 10 year High School Reunion was on July 20th. I wasn't even a class officer my senior year but I ended up doing most of the planning. As of right now, I say I won't be doing it again and that I won't be planning our 20th. My mom says I'll change my mind when the time comes. I don't think Colt will let me though :) Our class president did set up all the catering for this one which was a big help. We also had enough money in our class account to cover everything so that was definitely nice. Our reunion was Saturday night at the Arts Alliance with catered BBQ for dinner. I will say do not rent the Arts Alliance in the summer. We might as well have had the reunion outside! The air definitely wasn't working well. If I had it to do over again, we would be having it in the banquet room at Two Senoritas and letting them handle the food. It would have been about the same price, cooler and less work.

The Friday before the reunion, I took off work to go down and get the key to the Arts Alliance and setup so we didn't have to do it on Saturday. I picked up the key Friday afternoon. Then I went and dropped Colt off at my parents so he could study, and I picked up my mom to go back to set everything up. Linza came up and helped a little too. For those that were in town and wanted to, we planned on meeting up for dinner Friday night at Two Senoritas. By the time we got done setting up, I went home and changed real quick and it was time to head to Mt. Pleaseant to eat.

At Two Senoritas Friday night
Saturday morning we had planned for those that wanted to meet up at the lake to hang out. We ended up not going. Colt had his boards coming up and was already giving up two nights of studying so I didn't want to take even more time away from his studying. Plus, I wanted to just spend some time at my parents. Saturday evening, Colt and I went early to let the caterer in and do some last minute things (and try to crank the air up even cooler).

The reunion started at 7, and we ended up having a pretty good turnout. I think we had 34 class members show up overall.  It was good to see everyone and catch up. I feel like I really didn't get to talk to anyone much though! If it hadn't been for Friday night, I feel like I wouldn't have gotten to catch up as much as I did. It definitely doesn't seem like it's been 10 years since we graduated.

Class pic
For some reason Warren Williamson and Randy Fritts missed the group pic, and Jessica Meek and Shanna Whiteley ended up showing up a little later in the night.
Some... but not all of the girls
Linza, Leslie, Shana, Alicia, Oompa and I
Colt and I at the end of the night all sweaty. He ended up helping out a lot and definitely helped with the clean up.. not to mention coaxing other people to help as well :) He's defintely a good hubby!
