2014 Planner!

My 2014 planner came in last week! I don't know what it is... but I get so excited every year about my planner! I told Colt that getting a new planner and writing in it is one of my favorite things! I went with Plum Paper Designs, the company that I bought from last year. Personally, I liked several things about it better than the Erin Condren planner I had a couple years ago. I like the weight, the lines for writing, the customization options and not to mention that it's cheaper! This year I went with the family planner which just means that rather than my days being seperated into morning, afternoon and evening, my days are seperated into 7 sections. I chose to only label 5 of my sections (general, me, Colt, workout and meal plan) and then I left 2 sections blank for whatever I end up needing extra room for.
I love it... and I even bought a new set of colored pens this past weekend to use!

Interviews and Weekend

The week before last, I worked on Monday and was off the rest of the week. It was fantastic! After workout that Tuesday morning, I packed for Temple. Colt had his interview at Scott & White on Wednesday and a dinner on Tuesday night. Right after lunch on Tuesday, Colt, Josh and I headed out. To try and save some money, Colt and Josh scheduled as many interviews as they could together.  Once we arrived in Temple, we checked into the hotel and went and got a smoothie at DQ to tide us over until dinner. There were 8 candidates interviewing for EM spots that Wednesday. I think they interview about 160 or so for about 12-14 spots. On Tuesday night, we got picked up and we went for to dinner at BJ's with all the candidates and some current residents. Wednesday morning they had to be at the hospital at around 7 so I dropped them off. They had put Colt in touch with a realtor so while he was interviewing Wednesday morning, a realtor picked me up and showed me a few neighborhoods in Temple as well as a few in Belton. She also showed me both downtowns, a few restaurants and other things, and also gave me some information on a few CPA firms in case we do end up moving. After the interviews, they were taken to lunch at the Gin in Belton. When I got done with the realtor and grabbed me some Starbucks to kill time and warm up, I went to meet everyone there for a nice lunch. Then I attempted to show Colt around some of the neighborhoods that I had looked at. There are a few that we really liked. It sounded like all 5 of Colt's interviews went great that morning. He knew most of the doctors interviewing him since he had spent a month there for his away rotation. After the interviews, he ended up getting invited to one of the doctors houses out at the lake for dinner so after we spent some time looking around the area, we headed to his house for dinner and to visit some more. I will say that I was hesitant at first but now I think I'm sold on the idea and could definitely see us ending up there and it being a good fit.

On the drive to Temple, I started reading Divergent and today I finished book 2, Insurgent, of the 3 book series. They are similar to Hunger Games but yet very different. I think they're great so far!
Last weekend, we started Meet the Millers on Friday night but fell asleep before we finished it. We ended up ordering pizza and finishing it on Saturday night. That Saturday morning we went to the gym and after working out, we ended up going to play paintball with everyone from the gym for Raquel's birthday. I wasn't so sure that I was going to play at first and still wasn't sure the first game, but after I started shooting people and actually playing it ended up being fun! I did have layers on though so I doubt it hurt as much as it could have, and I only ended up with a few little bruises. Colt on the other hand woke up a huge bruise on his leg! I have a pic of it from his phone that I'll get around to putting up here.  To say the least,  he had fun though! He used to play but ended up selling his gun and hadn't played in probably 8 years or so. When we got home Saturday night, he was already on Craiglist looking for a gun and ended up meeting someone and buying one on Sunday. He also bought him some more groupons to play again and as I type, he is gone with Josh and a neighbor to play!! I have a feeling this will be a frequent event now that he has some downtime!
That Sunday, we went to a matinee and saw Thor: The Dark World. It was a good movie. After doing some chores around the house, we ended up heading to his mom's out at the lake to catch the Cowboys game. Colt watched the first half of the game but I read. It was a really fun weekend.

This past week, Colt had to leave for San Antonio on Tuesday. He had a dinner on Tuesday night and interview on Wednesday so he didn't get home until late Wednesday night. He said that he thought it went well. I think he wishes he could already be done with interviews and just know where he's going though! Me and some girls from work also got to go see Julie and her newborn on Wednesday for lunch. It was good to get out of the office and go see her and her baby. Friday we had Charity Day at work. Since Colt was off, he went with me and we spent the morning at the North Texas Food Bank. When we got home, I took a long nap before grocery shopping and cooking dinner that night. Yesterday, we spent the day at the gym for the SuperFit Games. Colt and Josh had a team and competed together. Their team name was Dr. Feelgood!  I took a ton of pics so I will do a seperate post on the competition. They did great though! Today, since Colt is paintballing, I am catching up and relaxing at the house. Since it's so pretty outside, I did spend some time outside reading, went for a good run and took the dogs for a walk afterwards. I just wish there was one more day to the weekend because tomorrow is going to be a busy day!

Happy 26th Birthday, Happy Halloween & The Interview Trail Begins

Last Sunday night we ordered take out for dinner and started Part II of Breaking Bad. I also ordered my 2014 planner that I'm super excited about! I went with Plum Paper Designs again this year, and I can't wait for it to come in. I don’t know why I get so excited about planners, but I do!

We had a busy week this past week. I worked out Monday, Wednesday and Friday night which is a record for me here lately. Colt had a basketball game at 8:30 Monday night in Dallas. I skipped out on this one and stayed home and ended up catching up on some things for work instead. Tuesday night we celebrated Colt's birthday with his family at Salt Grass in Rockwall. On Wednesday, Lindsey and Paul and their four kids came to town, so after working out on Wednesday we met them and most of Colt's family in Rockwall at Shenanigan's to hangout and bowl for a little while. It was a lot of fun! I will have to steal some of Dede's pics off of her facebook.
I also got to see Colt on Wednesday and Thursday while I was at work. I love seeing him in the middle of the day :) Wednesday he got done early so he just surprised me and stopped by to buy me some coffee. Thursday, on his birthday, he scheduled a dentist appointment in my building so we went out for a birthday lunch right before his appointment. We just went across the street to La Madeline's.
It was his 26th birthday! It's been exactly 7 years since I tagged along to his 19th birthday dinner celebration! For his birthday dinner, I offered to cook him a good dinner or go out to eat, but he wanted Hamburger Helper of all things. I asked if he was sure until he got irritated with me... but that's what he wanted. He wanted Hamburger Helper, and he wanted to relax and do nothing ... so that's what we did. We hung out and handed out candy to trick-or-treaters. His mom and David, Blake and Victoria, and Nikki and Davallen all ended up stopping by during the night.
This was also the first year I think that I haven't dressed up Lucky and Alex in their annual costumes. I don't think they were too disappointed about not having to put them on. Here's a pic of them a few years ago though.
It's been a nice, long and low-key weekend. I am so glad I am back to having two days off instead of one! After workout on Friday night, we went out to dinner. Saturday we did stuff around the house and I ran a few errands. Colt mowed and washed both our cars. Here's some pics of our yard after he got done on Saturday.
It looks great. He ended up getting yard of the month because it looks so good although he doesn't like having the yard of the month sign in our yard!

We ended up grabbing lunch at Chipotle in Mesquite on Saturday because we had some other errands we both had to run in Mesquite. Besides that, the rest of our weekend consisted of completely finishing the last season of Breaking Bad (I'm still not a fan of Walt) and just hanging out at the house for the most part.  David come over to watch the Cowboy game with Colt today and Davallen came with him but neither one of us really watched the game.

This coming week, Colt starts the interview trail for residency. His first interview is in Temple where he did his away rotation. I'm going with him to this one. We have a dinner on Tuesday night and his actual interview is on Wednesday. They've put us in touch with some realtors so while he's interviewing, I may be exploring a little bit. It's exciting. I'm also excited to have a super short work week this week!

Phone pics

It's been a low key weekend, and it's been nice! Things haven't slowed down yet at work but this coming week, it should start to hopefully. Colt started playing basketball this past Monday night up at the school so I went with him to that this week to watch and help watch Brock's little boy while they played. Friday when I got home from work, I had an appointment so I picked up Colt at the house and we headed to Rockwall. Afterwards, we went to a couple of gun stores and Academy and Gander Mountain in Mesquite looking for a gun that he was wanting. Then we ended up having dinner at On the Border in Mesquite. The rest of the weekend we didn't do too much out of the norm. We went grocery shopping, cooked dinner last night, and I worked on the flower beds for a bit today. That gun he was wanting, he ended up finding online and buying from a guy in Tyler. That guy just happened to be driving through Forney today so he was able to meet up with him today and pick it up. He was pretty excited about that! I did finish watching Season 5, Part 1 of Breaking Bad on Netflix. Now all that's left is Part 2. I'm not real sure how I feel about that show! It's a little addicting, but I'm really not a fan of Walt anymore that's for sure.

I try to put my phone pics on my computer and on the blog so that we have them down the road since I print our blog once a year.  I accidently deleted a lot of my phone pics the other night before I had them uploaded to my computer though so I lost them.

Our spoiled dogs
My phone on my camera is messed up so when Colt was in Temple, I used my Ipad to show him my new shoes that I got on clearance :) I love them and they were super cheap!
And my blonde hair that was a little too blonde to me at first.
Both of the dogs are not supposed to be allowed in the bathroom. They got away with a lot while their dad was out of town.
When I was working from home this past Monday afternoon, I had a little helper in my lap.
Dick's started selling Reebok Nanos. I have the older version and they are starting to get a little wore out. When I got a coupon, I ordered these pretty pink ones and they came in this week!

The past month or so

Now that I have a little free time, I'm going to finally catch up on what's been going on with us since the last time I blogged, about a month or so ago. Colt was doing his away rotation in Temple from September 2nd-27th so a lot of time consisted of him in Temple and me in tax season at work. After he got back home, he was off and had an easy, relaxed schedule. Unfortunately until the end of this week, it didn't line up with my work schedule. Tomorrow he starts back up again and is in anesthesia for a few weeks.

Since this is my way of scrapbooking, I'm just going to do a week by week recap of the past few weeks.
Before I get started though, while Colt was in Temple he had to start applying for residency programs. One of his mentors here recommended he apply to like 42 or something residency programs. So far, he's gotten about 20 invites. I think he'll end up interviewing at at least 12, and his interview schedule for November, December and the beginning of January is starting to fill up. So far, I think he has interviews in Texas (of course), the Carolinas, Florida, Alabama and Oklahoma I think. I have access to his schedule but it's constantly moving and changing.
He found out how he did on Step 2, his boards that he took at the end of the summer. He did good so that was big relief and I know he feels good to be done with it. A couple Fridays ago, he had to go stay the night in Houston to take an exam. It was more clinical and an exam where he saw multiple patients (or actors). That was officially his last exam of medical school! A few more rotations and he'll be done. After lots of interviews, Match Day in March and graduation in May, we'll be starting another chapter! So exciting and definitely proud of him!

Now on to the past few weeks...
The week of Sept. 9th-15th
Colt started working later shifts his last few weeks in Temple so when he was getting off, I was already in bed so we didn't get to talk a whole lot. Our skype dates definitely ended.
It was the last weekend before the Sept. deadline so I was busy at work and had to work a full day that Saturday. My mom's birthday was that Friday. The rest of my family ended up getting together for dinner but I couldn't make it down there by the time they were eating.  Colt got off at 2 that Sunday so he talked me into making the drive down to Temple that Sunday, and I got there around the time he got off. I went to the hospital until he got done. Then we went and grabbed a late lunch/early dinner at Texas Roadhouse. We drove around Temple and he showed me around a little and drove through a few neighborhoods where a lot of the residents live. Josh and him stayed the first few weeks in a motel so we got a room on Sunday night and I stayed with him and just got up really early and drove straight into work Monday morning from Temple.
That week my mom also gave me some bad news. She didn't tell me the day it happened. Instead she waited a couple days and told me. Spaz, our dog that I had gotten my freshman year in high school from my grandpa died that Tuesday. Whenever my mom or dad got home from work, he always went out to greet them. Well when my mom got home that particular day, he didn't get out of the way and she accidentally ran over him. He was to the point where he couldn't see or hear very well anymore so that probably had something do with it. He wasn't doing very well and he would've probably had to been put down pretty soon anyways but it was still sad. It's weird going to my parent's house now without him there sitting in his chair. I would post a pic of him, but most of my pics I have of him from when I got him are all hard copies.

The week of Sept. 16th-22nd
That Monday was the September deadline. That Friday, I took off work to go see Colt and spend the weekend in Temple. I left Forney Friday morning around 10:30 or so. It was rainy so I went through the drive thru at Starbucks on my way out of town and tried my very first Pumpkin Spice Latte. It was good, but I still think the White Chocolate Mocha is better. Due to the rain, it took me about 2 1/2 hours to get to Temple. By that time, Colt and Josh were staying at one of the resident's house, and I ended up staying there for the weekend as well. After I got there, Colt and I went to Jason's Deli for lunch. After lunch it was so rainy we just went to the house and watched World War Z on Colt's computer. It was a good movie. Definitely made me jump in a few parts. After the movie,  we went to Starbucks for some coffee and went and drove around neighborhoods in Temple and the Belton area. He got me to come around on the whole possibility of moving to Temple thing. At around 10 or so, I was hungry for dinner and he wanted to go workout. Before he fed me, he made me go to the gym with him:) After working out, we picked up Chick-fil-a for dinner.
Saturday morning we went to a place there called Meg's for a late breakfast. I ordered the same thing he ordered and we ended up with WAY too much food. We could've split one breakfast and still probably had leftovers! I ended up eating our leftovers the next day for breakfast too. After breakfast, we went back to where Colt was staying. The guy he was staying with had a group of residents over for breakfast so we visited with them before heading to go see Chris and Leslie for the rest of the day. Chris and Leslie are our old neighbors that went to our gym and recently moved close to Waco. We played with the kids, visited and cooked fajitas for dinner.  We got home late from their house Saturday night and ended up sleeping in on Sunday. Colt and I watched the Cowboys game. Then Colt, Josh and the guy they were staying with had planned on cooking steak for dinner so we headed to the grocery store. I will say that I am a fan of HEB for grocery shopping. All the guys seasoned their own steaks and had a cook-off. They all did a good job but I am a fan of Colt's! As soon as we got done with dinner, I packed up my things to head home so I could get back at a semi-decent hour. It was a fun weekend.

The week of Sept. 23rd-29th
Colt got home that Friday, the 27th, close to midnight. I had to get up Saturday and go to work until lunch. After I got home, we went to Christina's and then catched up on some of our shows we had missed while he was gone. That Sunday, my parents came up to visit and Colt cooked us all steak for dinner. I also got to give my mom her late birthday presents. Before they headed home, we went to  DQ and got some ice cream for dessert. I was happy to have Colt home after him being gone for a month. He loved his month working at the hospital in Temple. From what he's said and his evaluations while he was there, it seems like he did a great job!

The week of Sept. 30th -Oct 6th
I worked a full day on Saturday, and Colt had planned for a group of friends from med school to come over on Sunday. Josh and Brianna got to our house around 3 or 4 and we played a little cornhole before everyone else got here. Around 5:30 or so the rest of the group showed up. Colt cooked burgers for dinner. Unfortunately, we bought some cheap meat at Costco that didn't make the best burgers but it was still a good time! This was the first time since the first or second year of med school that we've had the whole group over.  Most of their families have definitely grown since we started med school. In addition to Josh and Brianna, we had: Brock, Lindsay and their two kids; Ben, Debbie and their two; Adam, Katie and their little girl; Garrett, Kelsey and their two; and Tiffany, our neighbor, also stopped by and brought her little boy. I don't think I forgot anybody. We had a full house though!

The week of Oct. 7th-Oct 13th
It was the last weekend before the October deadline (it's a neverending cycle) so I worked until late that Saturday to get enough done so that I didn't have to work on Sunday. Sunday, Colt's Aunt Kristal was getting married in Ft. Worth.  That afternoon we headed to Ft. Worth with Dede and David to go to the wedding. After the wedding, we stopped at On the Border in Mesquite and had dinner with them and Blake and Victoria before heading home.

The week of Oct 14th-Oct 20th
The deadline was on Tuesday. Based on Monday, I had expected to get done around 2 or so but that didn't happen. I ended up not getting done and out of there until later. Once I got home though, I will say it felt SO good to be done this year! When I got home, Colt and I went to Oscar Delta to grab dinner. I was tired so we ended up just watching a movie in bed. I was off work on Wednesday and Thursday. Most of the day Wednesday, I did absolutely nothing! Colt went and worked out on Wednesday morning but I stayed in bed. While he's been home he's been working out 2 x's a day and I've been working out none or maybe once a week lately! He has me watching Breaking Bad on Netflix so I spent most of the day doing that. We started watching Season 1 together. While he was home and I was working, he totally passed me and was on Season 5 when I was still on 2 or 3. Needless to say, I had and still have some catching up to do. I've watched a lot today too though so I'm on Season 4 now. He'll be done by the time I catch up, I'm sure!  We were headed to my parents to spend the day on Thursday so we left our house Wednesday around 6 to go and stay the night. My parents were having game night Wednesday night so Colt and I stopped for BBQ in Mt. Vernon and then started watching Man of Steel when we got to their house. In my opinion, that was a bad movie! Thursday morning my dad and Colt put a lift kit on Colt's truck and then ran to town to do a few other things, including spending a few hours at the gun shop. Once they got home, we cooked burgers for lunch. My dad got a new truck and was trading in his old one. His new one ended up not being ready Thursday so not only did Colt end up with a lift kit and alignment, he ended up stealing my dad's running boards too. My mom and I just visited most of the day. After Colt and my dad got done messing with all their stuff, the four of us headed to Paris to look for toolboxes for my dad's new truck. I had to work on Friday so we headed back Thursday night. Before we headed back, we met Heath, Jennifer and Tenison in MV at DQ for dinner and ice cream. It had been a few months since I had seen Tenison so it was fun to see him! He has a cute little personality.
After I got in from work Friday, we went and worked out and then went to dinner at Christina's. Saturday morning Colt had a mock interview at school. That morning, I did some stuff around the house including switching our closet out for fall and winter. About the time Colt got home, I left to go to Rockwall to take Lucky to the groomer. Colt was going to the gun show so I I just ran errands adn did some grocery shopping in Rockwall until Lucky was done. As soon as I got home, it was time to get ready to go to Grand Prairie to the horse races to celebrate David's birthday!
We also celebrated Alex's 5th Birthday on October 17th. I'm a bad mom. Since we were at my parents, I completely forgot about her birthday until we were on the way home that night. She got some treats when we got home to celebrate her birthday!
This week will be a busy week full or meetings and interviews, but I am looking forward to getting back to a better routine. I'm ready to start eating meals at home, working out again and spending more time at home period.

Lately

I got home by 7:30 tonight which is earlier than I've been home from work in a while it seems like. I actually had time to give the dogs some attention and do a few things rather than just shower and go to bed! Here's a little recap of what's been going on the past month or so.

The week of August 12th-18th, I was up hours at work but only to 50. It still wore me out though.  Since it was my last free weekend for a while, that weekend I weeded flowerbeds and cleaned the inside of my car. Colt mowed and washed the outside of my car for me. Other than that, we did a whole lot of nothing, which is what I wanted. We watched a little of the Cowboys pre-season game, Colt played video games and I made a grocery list and did a little blogging.

The week of August 19th-25th, I was at 55 hours so I had to work that Saturday. We went to Brock and Lindsey's on Tuesday night for dinner. It was the first time we had got to meet their baby girl and the first time we had seen them and their little boy since December. It was good to see them and catch up! I also had court in Royse City on that Wednesday morning for my speeding ticket I got a few months ago. I was nervous beforehand, I guess because I'd never had to go before, but it wasn't a big deal at all. It took a couple hours and I still had to pay a hefty ticket, but I did get deferred judificiation.  As as long as I don't get another ticket before November, it won't go on my record and won't make our insurance go up. After I got off on Saturday that weekend, I can't even remember what Colt and I did that night. Is that sad? All the days seem to run together. I want to say maybe we went to Christina's for a little mexican food but I'm not even sure!
That Sunday, Josh and Brianna, met us at our house and we headed to Colt's mom's out at the lake to spend the day and hang out with them and all of Colt's family. I introduced Josh and Brianna after only meeting Brianna once for about an hour through a networking coffee for work. I sent her a random email and asked if she was single... and so far it's been a success! They also attended our get together with Brock and Lindsey earlier in the week.  I only had my phone out at the lake that Sunday so I don't have a lot of good pics. Colt's mom had gotten a boat that week so we were able to go out on it for the first time. The guys tubed a little behind the jet skis and all of us at least got up on the wakeboard.

And Colt wakeboarding
The week of August 26th-September 1st, was sort of an abbreviated week at work. I left at lunch one day to meet Colt when he was shopping for a new suit for interviews and stuff. It was nice to get out of the office, do a little shopping and eat lunch with him in the middle of the week.
My uncle, my mom's brother,  passed away the previous week. His visitation was on that Thursday night and his funeral was on Friday morning in Mt. Vernon. We couldn't make to town in time for the visitation but when I got off work on Thursday night, we packed up and headed to Mt. Vernon. After the funeral on Friday, we spent the majority of the day with familiy. Some of that side of the family I probably hadn't seen in 10 years almost. After things slowed down on Friday, my mom cooked dinner and Colt and I ate with my parents before heading back home. Colt was leaving on September 2nd, Labor Day, to go to a month long away rotation in Temple and wanted the rest of the weekend to relax and pack. That Saturday, we went and got donuts for breakfast and then I ended up falling back asleep while Colt watched a movie. That afternoon, we headed to a matinee to watch Elysium. That Sunday, unfortunately, I was sick most of the day with a stomach bug or something.

When Colt left on Labor Day, I headed into work for the rest of the day.
The week of September 2nd-8th,  since Colt was out of town and I had plenty to do, I worked late most nights and ate dinner at the office. I hadn't been making it to workout as much in the evenings as I would like, so that week I tried to start working out a few times a week at 5:30 am. It put me at work a little later than normal but I wasn't making it home early enough to make any of the night classes so that's the only way I figure I'll be working out for a litle while. I did it again today and although it is nice to have your workout done before you start the rest of your day, I don't think I'll be making it a  permanent schedule. Once Colt got to Temple last week, he managed to group most of his days off together and actually had off his first weekend. I couldn't go up there because of work, so he came home for the weekend. He wasn't happy about me working Friday and Saturday morning since he was home alone with no vehicle (Josh and him carpooled home from Temple and he let Josh keep the truck) so he was a little pouty and in a bad mood when I first got home on Saturday. I did work as little as possible while he was home though! Saturday morning, I got pulled over on Hwy. 80 in Mesquite for speeding again! The cop came back and said that I hadn't had a ticket in 9 years so we would keep the trend! Little did he know that I had just went to court for a different ticket. I was very thankful and relieved though. I really think I just don't realize how fast I'm going in my car. When I drove the Honda, I never got pulled over... obviously if I hadn't had a ticket in 9 years! Here lately though... that's not the case. Since then, I definitely have been using the cruise control. When I got home Saturday, we went to lunch at Christina's. Then we went home and watched Life of Pi and just hung out and relaxed the rest of the night. Sunday was a lot of the same. We ate a big breakfast, watched football, Colt cooked steak for a late lunch and we watched Rise of the Guardians before I had to take him to meet Josh to head back to Temple and head into work for a few hours.

A badge pic I had to take of Colt for Temple
He did a good job of picking out his suit without me :)

Lake Day - August 11th

The Sunday after Burpees for Backpacks, we went to the lake again.  I'll be honest, since tax season had started up and we had went out there the weekend before, I originally wasn't too pumped about going again. Once we got out there, it was a lot of fun though. Josh met us at our house. Then we went and picked up stuff for burgers and headed to the lake stopping for donuts in Terrell along the way.  Gerald and Allison met us at the lake and brought Aaron, another guy Colt and Gerald had went to high school with. All I had was my phone so I didn't really get any good pics.
Alex absolutely loves the water and once Colt let her on the jet ski, there was no stopping her. Either David or I were holding her back most of the time but one time she got away and ended up swimming all the way out almost to the little island chasing Colt. She's going to end up drowning one day if we don't watch it.
Colt cooked everyone burgers for lunch. Even though he toasted most of the buns a little too much, the burgers were really good :) After lunch Gerald got a little wound up and things got a little interesting... to say the least. We definitely ended up leaving a lot later than we had planned but for the most part everyone had a good time.
