Beaver's Bend - October 2017

We went to Beaver's Bend, or actually Hochatown, in Oklahoma with the Burge family for three nights in October. We had originally planned on going out of the country for a beach vacation with them, but then both Whitney and I ended up getting pregnant! We both struggled to get pregnant our first times and ended up getting pregnant within a month of each other the second time around! We tossed around ideas about going other places in the U.S. but ended up deciding on Beaver's Bend. We rented a cabin that would've accommodated a lot more than just us. Kinley and their little boy, Witten, each had their own room. We decided to go this route because both of our kids sleep better in their own rooms. 

This was our cabin for three nights. 

The first night there we ate pizza at Grateful Head. Colt was amused with the name which is the reason for the picture below! We didn't do much that first day there besides grocery shop in town and go to dinner. We ate breakfast and lunch at the cabin every day and ate out for dinner each night. 

Kinley slept upstairs in a pack 'n' play while we were there. She woke up that first night/morning and ended up in bed with us for a while. This was her and her Daddy snoozing the next morning. 

After breakfast on our first day there, we decided to go into the park. We had Kinley, who was 2 at the time. They had Witten, who was 1. We had big plans to go on a couple hikes. They were NOT stroller friendly so our hike ended up being short. I'm not sure what we were thinking even attempting. Colt definitely got a workout trying to keep Kinley from rolling down the hill. We all got a lot of laughs! Kinley and Witten could've cared less and were just along for the ride!

We went to some more places in the park that we didn't have to hike after that.

Colt found some mud and had to test out his truck a little bit. 

We played on the playground for a little while. 

We ended up at another area of the park and went on an easy hike that was pretty stroller friendly for the most part. 

We ended up sitting in front of the water for a bit. It was October so it was too cold to get in, but Kinley was entertained for a long time by throwing rocks in. 

We ended up eating at a restaurant called Blue Rooster that night for dinner. It wasn't our favorite.

They built a little campfire outside that night. 

Most of the activities, like the train rides and the boat rides, that we were wanting to do were closed the days that we were there. We decided to try out the petting zoo close to our cabin. We were on the fence about going, but it was so good. I highly recommend it to anyone that is there with kids. The owner showed us each and every animal there. There were a ton of animals both inside and outside. It was kinda like a refuge as well. She took in animals that people brought her or animals that were injured or deformed.

Of course, Kinley's favorites were the reptiles. 

She especially liked the snakes. 

The owner said that the deer actually come and go as they please. They will leave during rutting season or leave during the day and come there to sleep at night. 

The goats, like most goats I guess, were aggressive with wanting to be fed. 

By the time we made it to the pony ride, Kinley was pretty tired and ready for a nap so our pony ride was short. 

That night we did a little exploring. Obviously someone wasn't in the mood for pictures. 

We attempted a family picture again anyways. 

Then we settled for just a picture of the two of us!

Both guys were in their trucks and wanting to use them so we ended up taking a lot of nonpaved  back roads. We weren't sure where we were at or where we were going, but we found some pretty spots. If you look real close in the picture below, you can see Matt, Whitney, and Witten up on the rocks. 

That night we ate dinner at a steak place called Abendigo's. The next morning we packed up and hung out at the cabin for a bit before we headed home.

Kinley and Witten were having a blast running back and forth on the front porch. I think Colt was scared Kinley was going to catch her toe and bust it.

And this was when we made it home that night. Evidently Kinley was wore out!

It was a great little mini vacation with the Burge family. We have a lot in common, and they are easy to vacation with.  We're looking forward hopefully to more vacations with them in the future. Then we will have Cutler and their new baby girl, Wynn, with us too!
