Cirque De Soleil

On Sunday, March 11th, we went to Frisco to see Cirque De Soleil or as Colt was calling it "Circus de Ole!" I had bought tickets a while back because I had been wanting to go to a show for a while. The show that we saw was Quidam. It was about a young girl's escape into a world of imagination.
Basically the young girl was bored and being ignored by her parents. Seeking to fill the void, she went into the imaginary world of Quidam. The show wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I think I went in with big expectations though. During the show, there were several acts and to me it started out a little slow but the second half I thought was great. The guy that was narrating was entertaining and it was fun how he got the crowd involved.
We weren't able to take any pics during the show but here are some pics off of their website.

This is how the show started.
The majority of the acts were pretty impressive and definitely took some talent but below are a few pics that were my favorite parts of the show.
The "cheerleading" part of the show and this was definitely the best part to me.

And I thought the bottom two acts were amazing too.

Overall we both enjoyed it. It's not on my top of my list of things to do but I think we would probably go again if there was a show that sounded good again in our area.

New Couch

We had been talking about getting a new couch for a while. Our sectional that we had bought back in Commerce was losing it's cushion, at least when Colt was on it. We had glanced at a few stores, and we really liked a leather couch at Restoration Hardware that we had seen. We had a coupon so on New Year's Eve we decided to head to Dallas to go couch shopping. We went to Restoration Hardware and after looking at the couch more, we decided it wouldn't work and it wasn't worth the money even with the coupon. We ended up at Weir's Furniture down the street, which I highly recommend for new furniture, and we ended up liking not only one but two couches. We liked one leather couch and one fabric. We went back and forth forever, sit, laid and took pictures of each. Both looked great, but we just weren't sure about how we would like the leather. We use our couch a ton and we felt like we would end up always laying a blanker underneath us to lay on it.
We went and ate lunch at On the Border to think about it and then went back to Weir's.
After much debate, we went with the fabric. Even after we decided, I was still going back and forth and wondering if the leather would look better in our house so we went back to Weir's the next day just to be sure about our decision (I am not a good decision maker and I always overanalyze).  When we walked in the next day, we definitely liked the fabric more.
I am so happy with our decision! I love the matching oversized chair too. They are both so comfortable.

Colt testing it out after it was delivered.

When they first delivered the couch, they tore the fabric on the side arm of the couch when they were getting it out of the truck. They left it with us and delivered us another one a few days later. If you are ever looking for furniture, go to one of their Weir's Outlets first. They have great stuff and that's probably where our barely damaged couch ended up.

I thought I would miss our sectional, but I like our new couch and chair so much more. They are so much better for our everyday use and tons better when anyone comes over.
Alex isn't ever allowed on furniture because she sheds so much but Lucky had his new spots picked out quick. His spot is either on the very top cushions of the couch or over in the very middle of the chair.

Another plus about changing couches is Colt sold our 4 year old couch for $350 on Craig's List. We had only paid around $1,000 or so for it that long ago and that was with an ottoman and some extra throw pillows that we kept. Not a bad return.  I actually kinda felt like we had ripped the people that bought it off, but they seemed happy with their new couch.

Tenison Gage

My nephew, Tenison Gage, was born on January 21st. He was born on my parent's 32nd wedding anniversary. He was born at 3:39 pm, and he was 6 pounds 11 ounces and 19 inches long. Colt and I headed to Mt. Pleasant to meet him and got there a few hours after he was born.
Proud dad. He looks just like Heath, which also means he looks just like my dad.
Family of three
Tenison and Mommy
Grandma
And me
Colt and my dad were also in the room but I didn't get a picture on my camera with them and Tenison. Joe and Nadine had also just left with their kids.
So happy for Heath and Jennifer and their new addition!

Jennifer and Heath's Baby Shower 1-15-12

We had Heath and Jennifer's baby shower in Mt. Vernon on January 15th. There was such a good turnout for the shower, and it went great.

At first Colt and I attempted making the shower invitation ourselves, but I ended up ordering the template on Etsy. I was so happy with the way they turned out!
Neither Heath or Jennifer were looking in any of the pics that I took at the shower but here are a few that I took during the shower.

I also didn't get a pic of all the gifts because there ended up being a lot more than this by the time they started opening.

Heath's camo diaper bag from my mom.
And also his first life jacket for the boat
And more camp
Pack and play from all the hostesses

And even a car seat

Here's a pic that they took of their presents piled up at their house.
So glad they had a great shower and got lots of good stuff for Tenison!

Do not leave keys in truck with dogs

I made blog titles over the last 4 months so that I would remember little things that happened or that we did but never actually blogged about anything. I am going to try to catch up in order so it may take a while before I actually get up-to-date.

Back in January, or maybe even the end of December, we were getting ready to go to Colt's parents. Colt got the two dogs in the truck (along with his keys) and came back in to get me. In the short time that the dogs were in the car, Lucky managed to lock us out of the truck. When we bought Colt's truck, it only had one set of keys, so we didn't have another way in. Colt tried for quite a while to open the door with a coat hanger but it didn't work and if you can imagine, he wasn't very happy. Then we both tried to coax Lucky and even Alex to step back on the door and unlock it. They were both so confused and even though Lucky came very very close to getting it once, he just relocked it and all attempts were unsuccessful. It would have probably been pretty funny for someone else to watch though. Colt's parents ended up coming over here and luckily his mom called the locksmith that unlocked it in 5 seconds. If she hadn't have went ahead and called, Colt would've probably tried to do it himself forever...

Lesson was learned though to not leave your only set of keys in the vehicle with your dogs! Since then we have actually traded in the truck so I don't think it will ever happen again. At least if it does, it will be another vehicle and we will have a spare set of keys! I will post about the new car later.

Tax Day

Today was finally the end of tax season which means the end of overtime and tomorrow is a holiday for me!! We started overtime early this year so it definitely seemed like a long tax season.

It's crazy how before I started work tax day was just another day, but to me and all the other tax accountants out there it is a holiday. My work lets us have after tax day off so it makes it even better.

We wrapped up everything pretty early today and I got off around 3. I skipped out on happy hour with co-workers and ended up coming home instead. I dropped Colt off and headed to get a mani and pedi. Then afterwards I stopped by Sonic because they were doing happy hour all day in honor of tax day.

I haven't blogged since New Year's (4 1/2 months... yikes this year is flying by) so I plan on trying to catch up a little sometime soon now that work will slow down a bit.
I also plan on starting to work out regularly because I am way out of shape. I used to be so good but I definitely have been slacking. Maybe putting it on here will make me more accountable. I just have to make myself find time to put it back in my schedule again.

HAPPY TAX DAY!

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve day Colt and I went to Dallas looking around for couches. We ate lunch at On the Border while we were shopping, and after a lot of back and forth between a leather couch and a fabric couch, we ended up ordering us a new couch and oversized chair from Weir's. We went with fabric and I am pretty positive we made the right decision, for us anyways. We love it, and I'm sure I will post pics later.
We got home just in time to grab some Starbucks and head out to his mom's for a little New Year's Eve party.

It was a fun night. We just hung out, ate, sat around the fire a little and then watched the guys put on a firework show at midnight! At 10:00, I was already getting tired and ready for the countdown to begin!  As soon as we made it to midnight, Colt and I were headed home. I definitely can't stay up near as late as I used to!
Hope it is a great year for everyone! I can't believe it's already 2012!
