Week 10: August 15th-21st

Colt was off on the 15th-19th for a five day stretch. My parents came for a visit while he was off. Other than that, I don't think we did too much other than our daily routine at the time. Colt did mount a TV and sound bar in our bedroom. I think he did it to give him a better setup to play PlayStation on. The perk for me was that it made it super easy to watch Netflix in bed while feeding Kinley! I binge watched both Gilmore Girls and Parenthood in the few months after Kinley was born!

August 16th - Snuggled up against me in the Baby K'Tan
Don't remember the reason for the expression... but it does looks like I actually had on makeup.
August 17th - she didn't stay asleep too long without me holding her. This is my baby blanket from when I was a baby (that I carried around with me forever). It's my favorite because it's so soft from all the use.
August 18th - I'm telling you, I loved the baby carrier
When my parents were here, we went out to Deadfish Grill for lunch. Kinley was so good! She just sat there and sucked on her paci.

August 20th - Alex laying on top of Kinley
August 21st - Lucky always laid on her too... anywhere they can get comfortable.
The many expressions of Kinley.

Sleepy girl
Other notes from the week:

She started sucking two of her fingers and would always try to do it while she was nursing too. This is a habit that didn't stay because she never really sucks on her fingers or thumbs now.

We decided that her feet stunk around this time. We joked that they stunk like daddy's. Our families didn't believe me, but they did. Her feet get really sweaty, like her daddy's, and they really did stink. They didn't smell like sweet baby feet. Luckily, I quit noticing this too. They still sweat, but they don't really stink anymore.

Lucky jumped and landed on her one day while I had her laying and sleeping on the couch. I think it scared her more than anything, but he did scratch her and break skin on the top of her head! She woke up, scram and went right back to sleep! This was the first of a few times that he's jumped on her. He also used to always walk right on or over her while she was sleeping in our bed. He just didn't see her and completely walked all on her!

Our dryer went out that week. They were going to charge us quite a bit to come and fix it. Luckily, I have a pretty handy husband that figured out what part we needed, ordered it and fixed it himself. With a newborn, even going a couple days without a dryer was a little bit of a pain. I'm glad we didn't have to get a new dryer though!

2 months old

Our little sweetcakes turned 2 months old on August 12th.

As mentioned in my previous post, Kinley's stats at her 2 month checkup were:
10 lbs. 15.7 oz. (38th%) 1ft. 9.85 in. long (19th%) 38.2 cm. head (45th%).
We were wearing Size 1 diapers and mainly newborn size clothes. She could wear a few 0-3 months, depending on the brand, but mostly newborn. She was starting to try to hold her own bottle. She was also starting to give us little smiles every once in a while. Oh my gosh... looking back at these... while I love the stage she's in, even though it seemed hard at the time, I miss this snuggly stage.

Week 9: August 8th-14th

Colt just got home from work and saw how long ago I was posting about. He kinda told me to give it up! I'm not though!

August 8th - I just love this little girl's face.
August 9th - Kinley in her workout gear... Those little leggings got small fast! Colt actually just looked at this pic and said "remember when she started filling those out and we thought she was so big!"

August 10th - Evidently Colt didn't trust me to not drink milk. He drew a line on our milk jug to make sure I wasn't drinking it. With almond milk to replace it, it actually wasn't hard. Now regular milk actually taste funny to me after not drinking milk for so many months.
Her tiny little feet
She was continually getting more and more intrigued with her activity mat and was starting to try to reach up for things. Her little legs were so skinny.
August 11th - Sleeping beauty when we could still put her on the couch and trust her not to go anywhere.
She turned 2 months old on August 12th. I will post her 2 month pictures that I took in a separate post.
Here are some other pics from that day though.
Napping on Daddy... turning two months old was exhausting!
 Rocking with Mommy
Out for a stroll
Bathing in the bathroom sink
We had Kinley's well child visit early on August 14th. She weighed 10 lbs. 15.7 oz. (38th percentile). She was 1 ft. 9.85 inches long (19th percentile). Her head was 38.2 cm. (45th percentile).  She received her first big set of vaccines. It was sad during them because she was just looking at me for help. Her little band aids were the cutest though.
Afterwards, she slept the majority of the day. She would wake up and go right back to sleep.
She was starting to try to hold her own bottle.
I'm not going to lie her sleeping more than normal after her shots was a little relaxing for me.

Other notes:

We started using Pamper's Sensitive diapers all the time and also started using washrags instead of wipes because she her diaper area was pretty irritated.

She started making little snorting noises.

She nursed a little without a nipple shield when I would try but it wasn't consistent and it didn't last. I am so glad we eventually were able to quit using it. It took a long time, but it's a lot easier not having to keep up with it and put it on whenever she needs to nurse.

Noone else will want to watch ... but just an extra little video of her on the 12th to remember her newborn cry.

Week 8: August 1st-7th

Colt started back in the Emergency Department in August after being on an off service rotation in July. I mentioned in a previous post that we headed to Forney for the weekend on the 31st. We didn't get there until later on Friday night.

On Saturday, August 1st, Dede and David watched Kinley for a little while so Colt and I could go on a date. It was our first outing without Kinley. We've actually only been out by ourselves one other time since then! For our date, we went to Mesquite and watched Mission Impossible Rogue Nation. It was very weird being without her. After the movie, we ran to a homes good store in Mesquite and then headed back to his parents house. While it was so nice to be able to get a break and spend some time with just Colt, I do remember missing her. That weekend between our date and everyone else just wanting to hold her while we were there, I remember just wanting to hold her because it felt like I hadn't been able to as much as usual!

Kinley passed out on her Daddy while we were in Forney.
Grandma bought her a swing to use while we were at their house.

Back at our house on the 2nd napping away
On the 4th, I had to take her to the radiologist at Children's to get an ultrasound on her hips. I think I mentioned it earlier, but her pediatrician heard a little click in one of her hips. She said it usually went away on its own but she wanted us to have an ultrasound just in case. Her results came back just fine and showed nothing to worry about.  After our appointment, I decided we would make a trip to Kohl's to return something. I had planned on running a couple other errand. However, after Kohl's, I was done! Remember it was August... getting her and the stroller in and out of the car had me sweating and ready to go home!

Milk drunk on August 4th

August 6th - Kinley was being fussy because from the looks of it, Daddy was being mean and not giving her her paci.
Other happenings from the week:

She started to get a lot better at holding her head up and she started doing longer tummy time sessions.

She started having REAL tears when she cried.

Colt made the comment that he thinks she's going to be bigger than her mama!

She slept 3 1/2 hours in her crib on the 3rd. We tried to play with putting her in her crib early on, but it didn't last long!

I started my invisalign over so we had a dentist appointment that week. Because of our frequent visits, she's well known at our dentist's office!

Since Kinley had been really fussy, after doing searches on the internet and reading posts on my mom's group on Facebook, I messaged our pediatrician that week regarding both my milk consumption and also whether or not she recommended Gerber Soothe Colic drops that I had seen some moms rave about. She told me to go ahead and cut back on my milk consumption because that sometimes works wonders in breastfed babies (I usually drink about 2 gallons a week by myself). She also said I could go ahead and add the probiotic drops as well, and if I saw improvement that I could start adding back milk or cutting back on the drops. I don't know that I ever really saw improvement!

July Extra

Just a little extra from July... I think I've mentioned this before but Alex kinda just ignored Kinley at first. Every time I would start looking for Alex, she was always in the spare bedroom by herself like she was trying to get away from Kinley and get some peace and quiet. Prior to Kinley, this never happened.

Week 7: July 25th-31st

Kinley turned 8 months old on the 12th, and then we celebrated her first Valentine's Day just a couple days later. She is getting to be so much fun and really developing a little personality! Thankfully she is also starting to sleep a little better most days too. No, she still doesn't sleep through the night! I have so much I could say about her and what she's up to... which is more and more everyday... For now, I'll reverse back to July though (sigh...so long ago)! There is definitely not enough hours in the day!

At 7 weeks, we graduated out of our up to 7 lbs. onesies and pjs. She also started having blowouts at night in her newborn diapers. Size 1 diapers were a little big on her, but they worked better and made cleanup easier.

July 25th
Our sleeping situation... whatever worked!
This was when I was still scared to cut her fingernails, and I was filing them instead.
July 26th
Checking out Lucky
Tucked snug in the baby carrier while Mom logged on to try to do something for work
Out for a walk around the block

Snuggling with Daddy... I think he misses this because he tried to lay with her and snuggle last night but she wasn't having it. I know I miss the newborn snuggles!
July 27th
Lucky in one of his spots in Kinley's room
On the 27th, she slept three hours without me holding her. Evidently it was a record since I wrote it down!

On the 27th, I also went and used my gift certificate that Colt's mom had gotten me for a pedicure and massage. I guess July 27th was the last pedicure I've had. It's February 23rd so I think I'm due! My pedicure that day wasn't the best but my massage was great! Usually they don't rub hard enough, but I almost had to tell this lady to ease up because it hurt a little bit. Colt kept Kinley that morning while I was doing that for about 2 hours. Then I had a dentist appointment that afternoon so he watched her again. Overall, he had her about 4-5 hours that day which is the most I think he's ever kept her. It was funny because he told me that he only got to sit her down 15 minutes total. He also said he made him a sandwich and didn't ever get to eat it! Haha... Welcome to my life at that time!

I think that was the start of a little growth spurt for her. Even when I got home that day, I had to hold her constantly. If I laid her down, it lasted 5 minutes tops. Needless to say, I didn't get dinner cooked or anything else done the rest of that day. The 28th and 29th she was the same way. Nothing would make her content, and I slept with her on my chest. This makes me laugh now, but evidently at the time, I was mad enough to write it down. I guess Colt woke me up one of those days after he'd been up playing a video game just to tell me that it had been 3-4 hours since she'd had a diaper change and ate. Evidently it irritated me, and I snapped at him! It's funny the different phases we've went through and how this seems like so long ago.

July 28th
July 30th
Kinley hanging out in her swing... as you can see our living room was completely turned into a baby/sleep area!
I think this picture is funny. She looks like she's in deep thought!
On the 31st, we went to Matt and Whitney's in China Springs for a pool party at their new house. It was pretty hot so Kinley and I stayed in most of the time. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures. I guess I was a little busy tending to her. Afterwards, we headed from there to Forney for the weekend.

Other little notes from the week:

Colt started singing "my milk jugs bring all the boys to the yard" one day. I found it funny... I still do... and I still get it stuck in my head!

I was still having night sweats at this point, but one night that week it was even worse than normal. I was also having a little oversupply issue I think. I was hurting pretty bad, and I was doing warm compresses and a heating pad to try to ease the pain and break up any possible clogged ducts. I also took a couple of warm baths so I could try to hand express to help out. Man... what they don't tell you about breastfeeding! Now it's easy, but in the beginning, it was definitely a learning experience!
