Rangers - ALCS Game 6

Colt found some good tickets on ebay for Game 6 of the ALCS. I had to work that Saturday because it was the last Saturday before the tax deadline. He bought the tickets that afternoon last minute and called me at work and told me we were going. I didn't have time to go home so he brought me some clothes and picked me up from work on the way to Arlington!

We met the guy Colt bought the tickets from right before the game and headed to the stadium! Our seats ended up being better seats that we thought they would be, and it definitely was a great game to get to go to! The Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 15-5, and we got to be a part of the celebration of the Rangers making it to the World Series!

The 1st inning started with a homerun for the Tigers right off the bat and then another in the 2nd. Colt and I were like "Oh, great" but luckily their lead didn't last too long.

The third inning when the Rangers kept scoring and scoring. They ended up scoring 9 runs that inning!

In the 5th inning, there was a ball hit to left field that Hamilton tried to jump for and a fan reached out and caught it. Would Hamilton have caught it?.. probably not, but the fan was definitely booed and he definitely got a look from Hamilton because we were sitting not too far behind him. The Tigers did end up scoring 2 runs after that, but luckily we were up enough even if he could've caught it, it didn't matter. You could tell the guy felt bad though!

Here's the pic of it I stole from sacbee.com and there was already a youtube video of the guy right after the game was over comparing it to Steve Bartman and the Chicago Cubs incident, which apparently was a really big deal for Cubs fans a few years ago. The poor guy was harassed and basically had to go into hiding.. how sad/awful is that?!

It was a very exciting game and we had a blast!

Game 5 of the World Series was last night and the Rangers won it putting them up against the Cardinals 3-2 in the Series. It's been a back and forth Series and most of the games have been close, besides Game 3, which was a very bad game for the Rangers. Hopefully they can pull off Game 6 tomorrow night! Go Rangers!

Dinner and Possibly 1st Annual Pumpkin Carving

Brock and Lindsey came over on the 14th for dinner and a little pumpkin carving! Colt and I had never carved pumpkins, except maybe when we were kids, if that. We had a lot of fun and it may just have to become an annual tradition!

Colt had picked out one really scary looking design that he wanted to try out and luckily he came up with this idea instead. This was the end result of our pumpkin. It didn't look exactly like this at the end of Friday night when we were done, but Colt had to perfect it a little on Saturday while I was at work and this is what we ended up with. I think he did a really good job. The only thing I really did was carve a few lines around the eyes!

After dinner, Lindsey decided we should make the carving a competition and get outside judges. It made it fun, especially with the guys. We carved pumpkins for at least 2 - 3 hours because both Brock and Colt kept working on the pumpkins.

Both of our pumpkins turned out really great and were pretty impressive if you ask me!

They would've been in completely different categories, and I think they would've both won :)

We started out using kitchen knives and utensils and then Colt went in the garage and found some screwdrivers that ended up working better. Who needs pumpkin carving tools?!

Lindsey and her pumpkin seeds! She took all the seeds home and baked them. She sent some to school for Colt, and contrary to what Brock said, they were pretty good!

My Erin Condren Planner

It has been a fun filled weekend and I have posts to come but I figured I would go ahead and post this first since I've been meaning to for a while. I had posted about ordering my planner a while back and it came in about a month ago. I took pics but hadn't gotten around to posting them so here it is! I LOVE IT and from what I hear, the $25 off coupon I used (seeyousoon25) is still working! I definitely think it's worth $25! It is a little on the bigger side but it's not too big. You have enough room for everything and a little storage place for other little things you may need.

It comes in cute little packaging and you even get some free personalized gift tags to go with it.

And for those that may be interested in getting one, here's a little peek of what the inside looks like.

At the beginning of each month, there's a monthly calendar and then it breaks it down by day into morning, day and night.

At the back, there's a place for notes and all your important numbers, etc.

And it comes with these cute stickers in the back to use in your planning.

These little folders in the back come in handy for bills, coupons, receipts, etc.

And there's this little pouch to keep you organized as well. My husband said all they did was stick a zip-lock bag in it, but it's still great!

The only thing that I would recommend they do is laminate the tabs for you. Mine came a little bent and have gotten a little worse. A girl that I work with ordered one and laminated the tabs herself this week, and I am definitely going to do it as soon as I get to the store and get me some because I think if you don't they will end up frayed and messed up.

And my favorite part was getting all of my little colored pens and filling out everything!

If you're on the fence about getting one and you're a planner type person, I don't think you'd be disappointed. I've had so many people ask me about it at work. One girl ordered one, another one wanted the info for possible Christmas present for her two college girls, and I've even had guys ask me about them for possible gifts for their wives. The guy I sit by at work knows all about them now that he's heard my spill on them so many times!

Update on our daily life

It's been a month already since I blogged! Tax season and fall tv shows are taking up pretty much all of my time and when I'm not doing that I try to spend a little time with my hubby when he's not studying! I kept meaning to write a little update on what we've been up to lately in our everyday life and what our summer consisted of ...so better late than never. The summer usually is slower at work but it seemed like we never really slowed down this year, and I definitely never ran out of work. I got promoted this summer to a Tax Senior, which has been good so far but I'm still in the process of learning how to juggle my prep and review work and how to gain efficiencies reviewing. After Colt wrapped up his first year of med school in May, he started a summer research position in cardiothoracic surgery for the summer so he still had to go into school everyday and he only had a week off, which is when we went on our vacation this summer. For his research position, he had to be at the hospital every morning at 7 to do rounds. Some days he got to watch a few surgeries and he saw some pretty interesting things and procedures over the course of the summer. The time that stands out to me is when he got a call at 4 to come in for a double liver transplant. When they weren't shadowing, Brock and him worked on their research papers, which they still have to work on and try to get submitted sometime. 

Basically, our summer consisted of me dropping him off each morning at the hospital, going to work out at the school, going to work and then picking him up in the afternoons when he was done. Exciting huh?! But at least the weekends were ours to do what we wanted and he didn't ever have anything he had to study! I do think he was somewhat ready to go back to his old routine and start school again when August rolled around though. 

Now he's already well into his second year of med school. Basically this year he has an exam every three weeks so it's pretty routine and usually he has every third weekend to take completely off if he wants to. His last test was supposedly one of the hardest he will have in med school and he did great on it. He always thinks he should've gotten a few more right, but he always does good. It also seems like he's been having to do more patient exam scenarios this year, and he had to do one on an actual patient (rather than an actor) last week.

And I have about two more weeks of tax season and then no more busy season until February!

Nearly Doctors and The Prisoners of Class Exams

Every year a group of 2nd year med students make a welcome video for the incoming 1st years. Below is the video that Colt's year made for the entering medical class of 2015. Erika's Baby Shower

We had Erika's baby shower at her house in Greenville on Saturday, August 13th!

My mom helped me with the shower. We had planned on getting together for lunch before the shower but things ended up being a little rushed and hectic so we just grabbed lunch at Subway as my mom was leaving. She had to leave before the shower to attend a memorial service but she ended up deciding to come back and barely missed anything.

They are doing Matthew's room in sports, so we went with the sports theme.

My mom had the idea to put the baseballs around the punch bowl.

I used Yum-Yum Bakery out of Forney for the cake and cookies, and I think they did such a good job. I sent them a copy of the invitation and told her that I just wanted something with sports that matched and they came up with this.

Not only were the cake and cookies cute, they both tasted great too. The cookies were probably my favorite though. I definitely recommend them to anyone needing anything for a party or shower.

The diaper wreath that I made -  It was my first attempt, but I think it turned out pretty cute. It was much easier to make than a diaper cake.

After the shower that day, I ended up staying and visiting for a while and then went and had dinner with Erika, Jeremiah and her mom in Rockwall at Mi Cocina. It was good to get to catch up with her because we definitely don't get to see each other as much as we used to or as much as we should. I had a lot of fun getting to plan the shower, and I am so excited for Erika and Jeremiah! Can't wait to meet Matthew!
