Lately

I got home by 7:30 tonight which is earlier than I've been home from work in a while it seems like. I actually had time to give the dogs some attention and do a few things rather than just shower and go to bed! Here's a little recap of what's been going on the past month or so.

The week of August 12th-18th, I was up hours at work but only to 50. It still wore me out though.  Since it was my last free weekend for a while, that weekend I weeded flowerbeds and cleaned the inside of my car. Colt mowed and washed the outside of my car for me. Other than that, we did a whole lot of nothing, which is what I wanted. We watched a little of the Cowboys pre-season game, Colt played video games and I made a grocery list and did a little blogging.

The week of August 19th-25th, I was at 55 hours so I had to work that Saturday. We went to Brock and Lindsey's on Tuesday night for dinner. It was the first time we had got to meet their baby girl and the first time we had seen them and their little boy since December. It was good to see them and catch up! I also had court in Royse City on that Wednesday morning for my speeding ticket I got a few months ago. I was nervous beforehand, I guess because I'd never had to go before, but it wasn't a big deal at all. It took a couple hours and I still had to pay a hefty ticket, but I did get deferred judificiation.  As as long as I don't get another ticket before November, it won't go on my record and won't make our insurance go up. After I got off on Saturday that weekend, I can't even remember what Colt and I did that night. Is that sad? All the days seem to run together. I want to say maybe we went to Christina's for a little mexican food but I'm not even sure!
That Sunday, Josh and Brianna, met us at our house and we headed to Colt's mom's out at the lake to spend the day and hang out with them and all of Colt's family. I introduced Josh and Brianna after only meeting Brianna once for about an hour through a networking coffee for work. I sent her a random email and asked if she was single... and so far it's been a success! They also attended our get together with Brock and Lindsey earlier in the week.  I only had my phone out at the lake that Sunday so I don't have a lot of good pics. Colt's mom had gotten a boat that week so we were able to go out on it for the first time. The guys tubed a little behind the jet skis and all of us at least got up on the wakeboard.

The week of August 26th-September 1st, was sort of an abbreviated week at work. I left at lunch one day to meet Colt when he was shopping for a new suit for interviews and stuff. It was nice to get out of the office, do a little shopping and eat lunch with him in the middle of the week.
My uncle, my mom's brother,  passed away the previous week. His visitation was on that Thursday night and his funeral was on Friday morning in Mt. Vernon. We couldn't make to town in time for the visitation but when I got off work on Thursday night, we packed up and headed to Mt. Vernon. After the funeral on Friday, we spent the majority of the day with familiy. Some of that side of the family I probably hadn't seen in 10 years almost. After things slowed down on Friday, my mom cooked dinner and Colt and I ate with my parents before heading back home. Colt was leaving on September 2nd, Labor Day, to go to a month long away rotation in Temple and wanted the rest of the weekend to relax and pack. That Saturday, we went and got donuts for breakfast and then I ended up falling back asleep while Colt watched a movie. That afternoon, we headed to a matinee to watch Elysium. That Sunday, unfortunately, I was sick most of the day with a stomach bug or something.

When Colt left on Labor Day, I headed into work for the rest of the day.
The week of September 2nd-8th,  since Colt was out of town and I had plenty to do, I worked late most nights and ate dinner at the office. I hadn't been making it to workout as much in the evenings as I would like, so that week I tried to start working out a few times a week at 5:30 am. It put me at work a little later than normal but I wasn't making it home early enough to make any of the night classes so that's the only way I figure I'll be working out for a litle while. I did it again today and although it is nice to have your workout done before you start the rest of your day, I don't think I'll be making it a  permanent schedule. Once Colt got to Temple last week, he managed to group most of his days off together and actually had off his first weekend. I couldn't go up there because of work, so he came home for the weekend. He wasn't happy about me working Friday and Saturday morning since he was home alone with no vehicle (Josh and him carpooled home from Temple and he let Josh keep the truck) so he was a little pouty and in a bad mood when I first got home on Saturday. I did work as little as possible while he was home though! Saturday morning, I got pulled over on Hwy. 80 in Mesquite for speeding again! The cop came back and said that I hadn't had a ticket in 9 years so we would keep the trend! Little did he know that I had just went to court for a different ticket. I was very thankful and relieved though. I really think I just don't realize how fast I'm going in my car. When I drove the Honda, I never got pulled over... obviously if I hadn't had a ticket in 9 years! Here lately though... that's not the case. Since then, I definitely have been using the cruise control. When I got home Saturday, we went to lunch at Christina's. Then we went home and watched Life of Pi and just hung out and relaxed the rest of the night. Sunday was a lot of the same. We ate a big breakfast, watched football, Colt cooked steak for a late lunch and we watched Rise of the Guardians before I had to take him to meet Josh to head back to Temple and head into work for a few hours.

He did a good job of picking out his suit without me :)

Lake Day - August 11th

The Sunday after Burpees for Backpacks, we went to the lake again.  I'll be honest, since tax season had started up and we had went out there the weekend before, I originally wasn't too pumped about going again. Once we got out there, it was a lot of fun though. Josh met us at our house. Then we went and picked up stuff for burgers and headed to the lake stopping for donuts in Terrell along the way.  Gerald and Allison met us at the lake and brought Aaron, another guy Colt and Gerald had went to high school with. All I had was my phone so I didn't really get any good pics.
Alex absolutely loves the water and once Colt let her on the jet ski, there was no stopping her. Either David or I were holding her back most of the time but one time she got away and ended up swimming all the way out almost to the little island chasing Colt. She's going to end up drowning one day if we don't watch it.
Colt cooked everyone burgers for lunch. Even though he toasted most of the buns a little too much, the burgers were really good :) After lunch Gerald got a little wound up and things got a little interesting... to say the least. We definitely ended up leaving a lot later than we had planned but for the most part everyone had a good time.

Burpees for Backpacks

We had Burpees for Backpacks at the gym on Saturday, August 10th. That morning, Colt and I went to Wal-Mart, bought two backpacks and filled them with school supplies to donate. He filled up one for a little boy and I filled up one for a little girl.
We did a short little workout.

There were several giveaways, and Colt ended up winning dinner for two at Chiloso or Oscar Delta, a restaurant that had just opened in Forney.

After we left the gym, we headed home and ended up going to use our free dinners to check out Oscar Delta for lunch. Chris, Leslie and their kids showed up so we visited with them a while before we headed to see a a matinee movie. We saw 2 Guns with Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington.

Office Decor

If you mention something to Colt's mom, she goes all out! When I first moved into my office it was bare. I mentioned needing decor to Colt, and he passed the word along to his mom. I had thought about bringing some stuff up from home but I wanted it a little brighter and more fun. Since you spend so much time at work, I figure you need to make it as happy of a place as possible. One day while I was working, Colt's mom text me a picture of a canvas and asked if I liked it. She said she would get it for me for my late birthday present. I expected to come home to one pic but instead, I came home to a floor full of decorations!
That was on a Tuesday. That Friday, Colt boxed everything up for me and stopped by my office on his way home from the hospital to decorate for me! And yes, he did all the decorating and deciding where everything needed to go! You wouldn't think so, but he's pretty good at decorating!

And if I ever get my CPA certificate framed, there's still room.

My office is definitely more homey now that Colt and his mom are done with it! In my opinion, I have one of the best looking offices at our office and it smells good too thanks to a diffuser that Dede also bought! It's sad that it's probably decorated better than some rooms in our house.

Here's the pic that I had originally bought and planned on taking to the office. It has a home in our office at the house now.
Dede and David also had this delivered to the office before all the decor came to congratulate me and make my office a little more comfy.
And here were some before pics...
Definite improvement from then to now!

Step 2 & The Lake

Colt started toxicology on Monday, July 29th. That Saturday, August 3rd, he had to take Step 2. It was a 9 hour exam with no real break. He left crazy early that morning and didn't get home until pretty late. When he got home, he looked exhausted. He said it was awful. I can't repeat the exact words he used to describe it! It will probably take 2 months to find out how he did. Regardless of how he did, I know he is just relieved that it's finally over. The rest of 4th year should be pretty easy for him, and now when he is off, he is off. He's not having to come home and constantly study for something.
When he got home from the test Saturday night, we went to Christina's for dinner. The next day, he and Josh had made plans to go to the lake to relax and celebrate finally being done. Josh got to our house fairly early Sunday morning, and we headed to Colt's moms out at the lake. We played on the jet skis, played frisbee with Davallen and the guys pulled each other on the wake board for a little while. Colt's mom had put BBQ on the smoker so after we were done playing, we all had a late lunch before it was time to head home. I think we all got a little too much sun, or at least I know I was a little sunburned and tired the next day at work. We had a great time at the lake, and I'm happy that Colt is done with another big part of med school!
Colt wanted me to take pics of Josh putting on this life jacket vs. him putting on the life jacket. He's such a good friend.
